Writing

Your children have become wonderful little writers this year.  The difficult part is not becoming a writer, but staying one.  I encourage you to try some of the following suggestions to encourage writing in your home.
· I have made each student their own Summer Writer’s Notebook. Please encourage them to write about the fun things they do this summer, things that made them laugh, made them cry, made them angry or made them happy.  Emotional writing is a natural way to express feelings (and as an incentive, any child who writes (quality) in their notebook over the summer and shares it with me in the fall will get a surprise).
· In their writer’s notebook, consider giving them a picture to tape in their notebooks to write about.  Scrapbooking and journal keeping is a wonderful way of writing.
· Get a pen-pal.  Find someone that your child can write letters with.  Getting a handwritten letter in the mail is very exciting.  The more they write, the more writing they get back.  Because this is the 21st century, you could also do this via email. Children may email me at lauradoran@wlcsd.org
· Go check out all the school playgrounds in the district, come home and write a review of each one and rank them.  See how LLE's playground ranks with other schools in the area!
·Write a review of different restaurants you visit or other places you go.

The most important thing is to remember that writing can and should be FUN!  Get creative and if you come up with your own great ideas, share them here!
