Dear Families,
Summer is here and it is time for fun in the sun with family and friends! In addition to getting outside and exercising your bodies, it is also important to exercise your brain. I have put together some fun suggestions to keep your child’s brain tuned up and ready for third grade. You can click on the tabs above to get different ideas on how to keep your brain in shape over the summer.
Please tune in closely to your child. If they are frustrated and refuse to work with you, it is either too hard or too "boring". If you have an iPod Touch or iPad, I have some apps that I recommend. You can view those apps HERE. Still, please make sure you limit this time to only a half hour. I have found in the classroom and at home with my young children, that laughter and working together gets the best results. Know when to put something away and remember that these children are young and should be spending most of their time in play (not computer or television play) and that much of learning happens through play and discovery.
At the same time, make school a priority and stick to it. Your child should read each day so give them a choice of when this is going to happen~ mornings, after lunch, before dinner, before bed… Sometimes what is in the best interest of your child, is not what interests them best. They need you to be firm on this. Make learning fun and think outside of the box, but don’t give up! I'll be working with my own children this summer to avoid that dreaded summer slide!
Remember your child has access to RAZ-kids all summer! They can read great books and work on comprehension questions. Click HERE for the RAZ-kids site and search for MrsDoran119. Your child should know how to log in from here.
iReady lessons are available to your child right at their level. They can do lessons in reading and math!! Their login information is on their Everyday Folder. You can the iReady lessons by clicking HERE.
I wish you well and look forward to hearing what exciting things await your child! Have a wonderful summer and thank you for sharing your children with me.
